Christmas Time...oh the joy

Christmas time is a very busy time of year for anyone. Add four kids, and a fulltime position with The Salvation Army, it gets even worse. I have been working on Christmas bows, but as soon as I got the pictures posted on my facebook page, they were sold. I never actually got any listed on etsy. But if they are selling, I won't complain. I am just grateful that people areinterested in my products and my family supports this.

My oldest kids are 9 & 8 this year. They are in 4th and 2nd grades and I expected the "I don't believe in Santa" issues to come up with my 9 year old. Even if she didn't come to the conclusion on her own, I thought her classmates would surely ruin it for her. Well, it actually came up with my 8 year old who blurted out in front of my other 3 kids "Santa isn't real, He died" Lucky for me, the younger 2 are too little to understand what he meant by this. Or maybe that was lucky for him. I am a firm believer that you should not make the focus of Christmas all about presents, but I think it is a fun thing as a child, to believe that there is some guy who delivers gifts to everyone. Working, doing the job I do, I want my kids to have that fantasy as long as possible. I don't want them to realize that some of their friends may not get anything for Christmas. I want to keep them young and innocent I guess. Mekhi did come to me crying, explaining that he does believe in Santa, but he didn't know what to believe because his friend had told him that. There was a sigh of relief on that one...I don't want them growing up too quick...

Every day it's something new

I have been working on girls bows and things for a little over a year now. Well, I have two little boys who get very jealous that mommy never makes anything for them. I occassionally sew things for them, but it just isn't the same as their sisters overflowing amount of hair accessories. So I came up with an idea of what I could do for them. It isn't anything spectacular, but it is something that mommy is doing because of them. I am going to start making zipper pulls and keychains. I am doing both because my 8 year old is more likely going to use a keychain, he can hook it right on to his backpack, but my 3 year old would love the zipper pull. My supplies are set to arrive today and I can't wait to get them made. I am excited to be able to have something for my boys!

Also on my mind, craft fairs! I did the fall festival here in town about a month ago, and it turned out great! So we have decided that I am going to set up at another fall festival in about a weel. It will be held at Horsepower Harley Davidson and I am so excited to see how we make out there.

Keep an eye out, because I will be posting pictures of the new products, and also of our set up at the fall fest! Can't wait.

Having a blast and selling bows!!!

I did my first craft show type sale yesterday. Here in Milton, they have a huge festival called the Harvest Festival. We always have tons of vendor downtown and they have a big parade. Our church happens to be right in the area of this festival, so we decided to set up some stands on the church property.

I have a friend who set up a Scentsy stand and I sold my bows and tutus. The church had a dime pitch, hamburgers and hotdogs, and basket with different items for sale. We all made out pretty well. I had set a pretty high goal for myself, and the reason I set a high goal was to push myself to sell. I fell a few dollars short of my goal, but I did amazing! I am so happy that it turned out as well as it did. I think it gave me a pretty big boost of confidence to continue doing this, and do it more than I had before.

While there, I was invited to a craft show they are having in about 3 weeks at a nearby church. I am setting my etsy site up and selling stuff on there again, but I will definitely be setting a stand up at this craft show as well. I am hoping with these craft shows that it will get my name out there even more so I can get more customers! I will be sure to keep you updated!!!

It's almost time...

In less than a week I will have my stand set up at the Milton, PA Harvest Festival. I am so excited about this! I have been working like crazy to get a good amount of stuff done to sell. Here are some newer bows...

I also have been sewing and made a drawstring backpack, and plan on making a few more of those to sell. And I made Abigail another skirt, and I am working on a new pillowcase dress for her. Just a simple one this time with some extra fabric I had left over.

And with all of the crafting going on, my daughter Bevi decided she wanted to make a tutu, for her American Girl doll.

My Latest Adventure...

So I decided to make my daughter a backpack for school this year. This decision was solely based on the fact that she is in 4th grade and is at the age where "no kid uses the same backpack they had last year" I mean, why would a kid save their parents $20/backpack, and use the one they have from last year that is still in perfectly good condition? Mind you, her 7 year old brother is using the same backpack he had last year. Anyway, I had enough fabric to make her a quick drawstring backpack, and I was kind of curious to see if I could make one with no pattern or instructions. Well, I did!

Since my daughter is so short, I do have to fix the straps because they are too long. And I need to find a way to sew them in better. But in the end, she loves it and it was made with things that we already had at home!

And now my son wants one just to have since we have digital camo fabric. I think I know what the boys are getting fo Christmas!

 

What are we working on?

I have been busy, busy, busy working on new items for The Milton Harvest Festival. Trying to get my stock built up in time for an event this big is harder than I thought. Especially when I only get to work on things after the kids are in bed for the most part. It would be nice to get to spend an entire day sitting around crafting, but that's just not my reality...

Finally...BOWS!

I finally had some time last night to work on a few bows. Not much time, but even just a little is nice. I have a friend who wants a "big sister" bow for her daughter for the day she has her c-section, and I had one done, but decided I wanted to try to make another...

Also made a few others. It was rough because it has seriously been over a month since I have made any, but they turned out pretty good.

Next up on my to-do list? I have a skirt to make for my one so she can match her big sister, and then I am making one for a friends daughter :-) Will post pics when they are done. Hopefully I can get a picture of the 3 girls in the skirts together!

I have tried a blog before and didnt keep up with it after a while. I am determined to keep this one up and running. This is not just my personal blog, but my blog about my crafts and other things going on in life.

I am first a mother and wife. I have four amazing children, ages 9, 7, 3, & 1. My husband is an Army National Guard soldier and is preparing for his 2nd deployment. Although my family is wonderful, crafting is my escape...my me time.

My latest venture was tie dying. It was something my oldest daughter brought up to me and I took it and ran with it. It turned out pretty decent and I have decided to try to sell some of the shirt we made in my etsy shop. Here are some pictures of what I have done...
